NZ Immigration Update

Arno Nothnagel, our NZ Immigration Director and Trinity Li, our NZ Immigration Strategist, hosted a webinar to provide an update on NZ’s immigration situation.

NSW Skilled and Business Migration have announced that direct applications for the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) are now being accepted.

During the 2020-21 Migration Program, the Government delivered 160,052 places for couples seeking to reunite against the planning level of 160,000 places. This has increased from 140,366 places delivered in 2019-20, despite the challenges faced with COVID-19 and border restrictions.

For 457/482 visa holders - have you applied for or held a subclass 457 visa before 18 April 2017, and are supported by your current employer to apply for the subclass 186 visa under the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream? If so, you may wish to lodge the application prior to the upcoming deadline of 18 March 2022.

When New Zealand’s borders closed on 19 March 2020, no one expected that a year later families would still be separated with no sign of a possible reunion in the near future.

The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke MP has announced the inclusion of 22 additional skilled occupations on the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL).

Due to strict border controls, NZ Immigration cannot legally grant visas to people outside NZ who are unlikely to meet the entry requirements and therefore applications from most people cannot be granted.
