The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) is a visa designed to allow international students who have completed their studies in Australia to remain in the country temporarily to gain practical work experience. This visa is a vital step for many international graduates who wish to apply their newly acquired skills in the Australian workforce and possibly secure permanent residency in the future.

Requirements To Apply For The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

Key Features of the 485 Temporary Graduate Visa:

  • No Skills Assessment for Post-Study Work Stream: One of the significant advantages of the Post-Study Work Stream is that it does not require a separate skills assessment, making it more accessible for a broader range of graduates.

  • Work Rights: Visa holders under both streams have unrestricted work rights, allowing them to work in any occupation or industry during their stay in Australia.

  • Study Rights: Graduates can also undertake further studies during their stay in Australia, although the visa does not provide access to government funding for education.

Application Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be under 50 years of age at the time of application.
  • They must have completed an eligible qualification in Australia within the past six months.
  • Holders of a Subclass 500 student visa or certain other specified visas are eligible to apply.
  • Health insurance coverage is required for the duration of the visa.

Visa Conditions:

  • Visa holders are expected to adhere to Australian laws and regulations.
  • They must maintain adequate health insurance coverage.
  • While there is no specific work requirement, the visa is intended for individuals seeking work experience related to their field of study.
