Enhancing Visa Processing with the New Australian Immi App

In a significant move to streamline visa processing and enhance connectivity with the Pacific, the Department of Home Affairs has launched the Australian Immi App, a new mobile application that provides facial biometric capture and verification capabilities. This innovative tool allows eligible visa applicants to independently complete a critical part of the visa application process, making it simpler, more secure, and accessible. 

Pacific rollout for greater connectivity and security 

Initially, the Australian Immi App is available for visa applicants located in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Papua New Guinea. Additionally, third-country nationals based in New Zealand can also benefit from the app. This targeted release is part of Australia’s ongoing commitment to foster a stronger and more interconnected Pacific region, supporting economic growth and facilitating travel while ensuring security. 

Streamlined and cost-effective process for applicants 

The app offers a cost-saving and time-efficient alternative to in-person biometrics collection at Australian centres. By using the Australian Immi App, eligible applicants can submit facial biometrics and passport details directly from their smartphones. Those who have previously provided biometrics at an Australian biometric collection centre will receive a letter from the Department inviting them to use the app. The app, free to download, eliminates the need for travel to collection centres, reducing travel costs and simplifying the application process. 

Supporting border security with advanced biometrics 

The collection of facial biometrics is integral to Australia’s security measures. Biometrics help verify applicants’ identities, ensuring their protection from identity fraud and enhancing the integrity of Australia’s borders. By expanding the biometrics program, the Department continues to bolster the safety and security of travel to Australia.
