Australian Citizenship By Conferral

If you’re already a permanent resident of Australia, you can take the next step by becoming an Australian Citizen and enjoy the benefits including the right to vote, access to government services, and the ability to travel on an Australian passport.

Australian citizenship by conferral is a pathway through which eligible individuals can become Australian citizens through an application process. It is an important step for permanent residents and other eligible visa holders who wish to fully integrate into Australian society, enjoy the rights and privileges of citizenship, and become active members of the Australian community.

Becoming An Australian Citizen By Conferral

Becoming an Australian citizen by conferral is a pathway available to people with permanent residency in Australia. Citizenship by conferral involves applying for Australian citizenship and fulfilling the eligibility requirements set by the Australian government.

It is advisable to seek professional advice and guidance from immigration experts to navigate the process of obtaining Australian citizenship through conferral.

Australian Citizenship Eligibility Requirements

To apply for Australian citizenship, several requirements must be met.

These requirements include that you must:

    • Be an Australian permanent resident
    • Have lived in Australia for a period of four years with absences of less than 12 months
    • Have lived in Australia for the last 12 months as a permanent visa holder with absences of less than 90 days
    • Be of good character
    • Have an adequate knowledge of your responsibilities and privileges as an Australian citizen
    • Intend to reside in Australia or to preserve a close connection with Australia

The Australian Citizenship Test

The Australian Citizenship Test is a component of the citizenship application process.

The test consists of multiple-choice questions testing an applicant’s knowledge, and covers various topics, including government, law, national symbols, and Indigenous culture. Applicants must achieve a passing score to fulfil the citizenship requirements.

Australian Citizenship Ceremony

An Australian Citizenship ceremony is the culmination of the  journey and is a celebration for new citizens of Australia. Participants are asked for three pledges:

“I affirm my loyalty to Australia and its people, Whose democratic beliefs I share, Whose rights and liberties I respect, And whose laws I uphold and obey.”

Invitations are sent four weeks before the ceremony, and each local council arranges the time and location.

Our Citizenship Services

If we haven’t already assisted you with your Permanent Residency and other visas along your immigration pathway, we will arrange a discovery call to find out more about your situation and whether you have a partner and/or family members who are also seeking citizenship.

After our discovery call, your dedicated Migration Agent will develop a Migration Strategy that will outline the steps involved and the details required to lodge your citizenship application.

Once you have approved the Strategy we propose, we take over and begin your application using the documents and information you provide.  We are able to lodge your citizenship application on your behalf with the Department of Home Affairs, which takes away the stress from you!
