Who Is Eligible For The Parent Resident Visa?

To be eligible for the Parent Resident Visa, applicants must meet specific criteria:

1. Parent-Child Relationship:Applicants must have an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident and is willing to sponsor their parent’s residence visa application.

2. Non-Dependents: Applicants must not have dependent children, categorized as being under 25 years old and single. 

3. Income and Sponsorship: The sponsoring child in New Zealand must meet specific income requirements to demonstrate their ability to financially support their parent(s) during their initial years in New Zealand.

4. Health and Character: Like all New Zealand visa categories, applicants must meet health and character requirements, ensuring they are in good health and possess good character.

Application Process

The Parent Resident Visa typically consists of five stages:
1. Expression of Interest (EOI):  Prospective migrants need to submit an EOI online, providing detailed information about their employment, NZ experience, qualifications, and income.  2. Invitation to Apply (ITA): If an EOI is successful, the applicant will receive an Invitation to Apply. The ITA invites the applicant to submit a ‘Parent Category Residence Application’ form. The sponsor must submit a ‘Sponsorship Form for Residence’.
