The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) is a key pathway for foreign nationals seeking employment in New Zealand. To be eligible for this visa, individuals must secure a genuine job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer. Accreditation is granted to employers who meet specific criteria, such as demonstrating their commitment to hiring and training New Zealand citizens and residents. Once an employer is accredited, they can hire foreign workers under this visa category.

Who Is Eligible For The AEWV?

There are certain criteria that applicants need to meet before applying for the AEWV:

1. Job Offer from an Accredited Employer: To qualify for this visa, you must have a genuine job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer. An employer must be accredited to hire migrants for the Accredited Employer Work Visa and has an approved job check for your role.

2. Skills and Experience: You must possess the skills and experience required for the job you’ve been offered.

3. New Zealand Qualification: If it is required to work in your occupation in New Zealand, you must have New Zealand registration.

Application Process

The AEWV involves two stages:

1. Employer Accreditation & Job Check: The employer must first apply for accreditation, which involves demonstrating their commitment to employing and training New Zealanders. Once accredited, they can apply to secure job checks to invite migrant workers to start the work visa process.

2. Visa Application: As the employee, you can apply for the Accredited Employer Work Visa after the employer’s accreditation is approved. You’ll need to provide supporting documents, including your job offer and proof of your qualifications and experience.

What Is The Duration Of The AEWV?

The duration of this visa varies but is granted for up to 3 years, depending on the pay rate of the job offered. If you are earning above the median wage, the visa duration may increase up to 5 years.

Benefits

The AEWV offers numerous benefits:

1. Multiple Entries: Visa holders can make multiple entries into New Zealand during the visa’s validity.

2. Family Support: You may support a work visa for your partner, and appropriate visas for your dependent children on this visa.

3. Pathway to Residence: Holding this visa can be a pathway to New Zealand residence, as it may make you eligible for the Work to Residence category if you meet certain criteria.

4. Access to public funded healthcare: You may receive free inpatient and outpatient treatment at public hospitals; free hospital care if you have an accident; free maternity care; free support services if you have a disability; subsidies on prescriptions; and free fertility services.
