Who Is Eligible For The Parent Retirement Resident Visa?

To be eligible for the Parent Retirement Visa, applicants must meet specific criteria:

1. Relationship: Applicants must be the parents of an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident. They can also be the parent of the partner or spouse of a New Zealand citizen or resident.

2. Sponsorship: A New Zealand citizen or resident child (sponsor) must be willing to sponsor their parent’s visa application and provide financial support.

3. Income Requirement: Sponsors must meet minimum income requirements to demonstrate their ability to financially support their parents during their stay in New Zealand. They must also provide evidence of funds acquired, with a minimum of NZD $500,000.

4. Health and Character: Like all New Zealand visa categories, applicants must meet health and character requirements and provide evidence of their good health and character.

Visa Process

The application process for the Parent Retirement Visa involves two stages:

1. Temporary Retirement Visitor Visa: Initially, successful applicants are granted a temporary retirement visitor visa, which allows them to live in New Zealand for up to 24 months. During this period, they can enjoy their retirement in New Zealand and spend quality time with their family.

2. Residence Visa Application: After residing in New Zealand on the temporary visa, applicants can submit an application for a residence visa. This application allows parents to transition from temporary to permanent residency.
