Types Of 400 Temporary Work Visas

There are three types of 400 temporary work visas you can apply for.

Group 165

Highly Specialised Work stream

This is a visa for an individual whose skills are highly specialised. They can bring their skills and knowledge to an Australian business that cannot reasonably find these attributes in the Australian labour market.

As this is a short-term visa, the applicant is expected to have completed their work in Australia within 6 months.

Extensions can be granted, however the Department of Home Affairs must be satisfied that there is a strong case for the extension, such as the applicant’s unique skills, a lack of talent in the Australian job market, or contractual obligations the company has to customers or stakeholders.

Group 165

Australia’s Interest stream

This stream is for applicants who enter for Australia’s best interests, such as firefighters helping with bushfire control or other disaster relief; applicants who have the support of a foreign government; or those who can significantly contribute to Australia’s business, economic or cultural development.

The Interest stream is only available in exceptional circumstances.
