Skilled Regional Visa (Subclass 887) Eligibility

To be eligible for the Subclass 887 visa, applicants must have previously held either a Subclass 489, 475, 487, or 495 visa, and have lived in a designated regional area for at least two years. The specific regional requirements can vary depending on the visa subclass held before applying for the 887 visa.

During their time on the initial regional visa, applicants must have adhered to conditions such as living, working, and studying in the designated regional area. They must also meet health and character requirements, and not have any outstanding debts to the Australian government.

Unlike other pathways, the Subclass 887 doesn’t require a sponsor or a points-based assessment. Instead, it’s focused on recognizing the applicant’s contribution to their regional community. This visa classifies as a permanent residency visa, allowing holders and their families to access Australia’s healthcare, social security, and education systems.
