Imminent Closure of the Subclass 408 (Pandemic Event) visa

The Government will close the Pandemic Event visa on 1 February 2024 due to the cessation of the circumstances that prompted its creation at the height of COVID lockdowns and travel restrictions.

However, from September 2, 2023, only current holders of a subclass 408 (Pandemic stream) visa will be able to apply. New applications for the Pandemic Event visa from September 2, 2023 until its complete closure on 1 February 2024, will have a six-month validity and will need to pay a Visa Application Charge of $405.

If you (or an employee) are in Australia on a visa carrying work rights and were intending on submitting an initial application for a subclass 408 (Pandemic stream) visa, you MUST have 90 days or less remaining on your current visa before 11:59 pm AEST on Friday 1 September 2023 which is the last opportunity to submit.
