Duration Increases for the AEWV

From 27 Nov 2023, NZ's AEWV program changes include a new 'maximum stay' and extended visa lengths, affecting application and extension processes.

From 29 October, employers cannot use 90-day trial periods on an AEWV. From 27 November, construction firms will need to have at least 35% of their labour hire workforce made up of NZ citizens and residents

The New Zealand Government has announced changes to the immigration system to increase protection and support for migrant workers.

From 29 September 2023, the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment is being updated to coincide with the Green List and Sector Work to Residence (WTR) categories and will mean that the new LQEA will be in place when the new SMC opens on 9 October 2023.

The new median wage of NZD$31.61 per hour will be adopted into the immigration system in February 2024.

From 25 September 2023, Immigration New Zealand will be changing how they respond to false or misleading information in visa applications.

Green List wage requirements

Immigration New Zealand has clarified that all Green List Straight to Residence applicants will be required to have a job or job offer that meets the median wage requirement.

Eligibility for the Green List Work to Residence visas and the Care Workforce and Transport Sector Agreements is being extended to include all temporary work visa holders and Critical Purpose Visitor Visa holders with work rights.

From 1 October 2023, an increase in the minimum pay and a new sick leave entitlement for Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) workers will come into effect.

The closing date for the Expressions of Interest (EOI) pool under the current Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) is 16 August 2023.

100 Expressions of Interest (EOI’s) will be selected from the ballot pool in an additional Parent Category draw.

On 8 August 2023, the next selection for the Parent Resident Visa Category expressions of interest (EOIs), will take place.
