Overview of AEWV UpdatesÂ
The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme continues to evolve to better meet the needs of employers and migrants in New Zealand. The government has implemented significant changes aimed at streamlining processes, prioritising applications, and enhancing efficiency.Â
Â
Key Features of the Recent ChangesÂ
1. Updated Prioritisation of ApplicationsÂ
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) now prioritises:Â
- Applications from employers with accreditations nearing expiry.Â
- Roles listed on the Green List.Â
This targeted allocation ensures quicker decisions for high-priority cases, addressing critical skill shortages.Â
2. Simplified Evidence Requirements for AccreditationÂ
Employers must confirm:Â
- Staff involved in recruitment for AEWV holders have completed Employment New Zealand’s learning modules.Â
- Migrant workers are provided paid time to complete these modules.Â
New Update: Employers are no longer required to submit evidence of these confirmations during the application process. INZ may request additional documentation if concerns arise.Â
Â
3. Improved Processing EfficiencyÂ
INZ has significantly enhanced its processing capacity:Â
- 73% increase in AEWV decisions.Â
- 57% more Job Check applications processed.Â
- 25% rise in employer accreditation decisions in October compared to September.Â
Â
4. Future Simplifications in ConsiderationÂ
To further improve processing, the government is considering:Â
- Removing the requirement for Employment New Zealand modules entirely.Â
- Eliminating the need to provide employment agreements during Job Check applications.Â
In the meantime, employment agreements submitted with Job Check applications are processed more efficiently, with additional information only requested if concerns arise.Â
Implications for Employers and MigrantsÂ
These updates reduce administrative overhead and improve clarity for employers, ensuring faster recruitment of skilled workers. Migrant workers benefit from better protection of their rights and simplified processes.Â
Employers are reminded to comply with all accreditation and visa conditions to maintain their status under the AEWV scheme.Â
