Franchisee Accreditation Category
Starting June 16, 2024, New Zealand will disestablish the franchisee accreditation category for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). This decision, announced by the Minister of Immigration, aims to streamline the accreditation process for franchisee employers by aligning it with other existing categories.
Â
Impact on Franchisee Employers
Franchisee employers will now be able to apply for one of the following accreditation types:
- Standard Accreditation
- High-Volume Accreditation
- Controlling Third Party Accreditation
Â
This change is designed to reduce costs and administrative burdens for franchisee employers, placing them on an even footing with other businesses in the same industry.

Transition Details
Employers with current franchisee accreditations do not need to take immediate action. They can apply for another accreditation type after June 16, 2024. It is advised that current accredited employers apply for renewal before their accreditation expires to ensure continuity. Interim accreditation may be granted if renewal applications are not processed before the expiry date.
