Following the recent announcement that the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) will increase to $70,000 (plus Superannuation) from 1 July 2023, Jamie Lingham, our CEO and Global Immigration Leader, provides urgent guidance of what this means to employers as further details have come to hand.
Jamie explains that employers of foreign workers on a 482 visa will need to undertake a Labour Market Test (LMT) (advertising the role) as soon as possible as they will need to lodge the visa applications to the Department the day after the 28-day advertising period. Please note that this advertising must be in-line with the Department’s guidelines and include advertising on Workforce Australia.
The latest an employer can advertise will be 1 June 2023 and due to the short timeframe, we anticipate the Department’s systems may not cope with demand, also they will have scheduled maintenance planned for the end of June to meet the new requirements of 1 July. Jamie advises that the sooner the advertising is up and running, the better!
Furthermore, Jamie advises that anyone who currently employs individuals on subclass 482 visas earning below the new TSMIT of $70k, and may not yet be thinking of renewing or lodging a subclass 482 visa for 10 months, to contact us as a matter of priority.
