PTE is now more aligned to IELTS scores
The Pearson English Language Test (PTE) has recently released a report to reassess the concordance between PTE English language scores and those of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. Although there has been no change to the PTE exam or its method of assessing, the standard scores with PTE tests have been adjusted to better align with the IELTS standard scores.
Frequently, language test providers undertake reviews of its scores concordance with other tests to ensure the highest level of accuracy when scoring test-takers.
The PTE team has essentially updated their concordance table, which is a guide to how PTE scores relate to IELTS and also gives the candidate, in a thermometer-style scale, an accurate overview of their skills.
What has changed?
In general terms, the updated concordant scores have been minimally adjusted. At IELTS band 7.5 and above, PTE scores are at some points higher on the scale. In contrast, at IELTS band 6.5 and below, the scores are at some points lower.
When the changes will be implemented?
Until a new legislative instrument is released changing the scores, the currently legislated scores will remain in force*. This means that the current PTE English Language score requirements will remain the same until further notice, and for applications lodged before any changes are implemented.
*Please note that it often takes a considerable amount of time for new legislation to be drafted and released.
