New Zealand to move to Alert Level 2
Jacinda Ardern has announced New Zealand will move to Alert Level 2 from 11:59pm Wednesday May 13 2020. The Prime Minister was clear that the country would be moving to Alert Level 2 in stages.
The reduced restrictions will allow retail, malls, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and other public spaces including playground and gyms to reopen, ensuring they maintain distancing and hygiene measures. Health services will also reopen from Thursday.
People will be allowed to catch-up in groups of up to 10 and travel around the country will also be permitted.
Schools and early learning centres can reopen from Monday 18 May with bars to reopen the following Thursday, 21 May. Bars must ensure they adhere to requirements for distancing, seating and hygiene measures.
The group maximum of 10 people will also apply to religious services, weddings and funerals. These restrictions will be reviewed in two weeks with the view to grow gathering limits depending on the spread of COVID-19.
