A new Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) has been announced by the Acting Minister for Immigration Alan Tudge and includes 17 occupations that will allow priority processing and travel exemptions for applicants to assist in the country’s COVID-19 recovery.
The 17 occupations (ANZSCO code) include:
- Chief Executive or Managing Director (111111)
- Construction Project Manager (133111)
- Mechanical Engineer (233512)
- General Practitioner (253111)
- Resident Medical Officer (253112)
- Psychiatrist (253411)
- Medical Practitioner nec (253999)
- Midwife (254111)
- Registered Nurse (Aged Care) (254412)
- Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency) (254415)
- Registered Nurse (Medical) (254418)
- Registered Nurse (Mental Health) (254422)
- Registered Nurse (Perioperative) (254423)
- Registered Nurses nec (254499)
- Developer Programmer (261312)
- Software Engineer (261313)
- Maintenance Planner (312911)
The new list of occupations is aimed at filling urgent skills needed in critical sectors, as well as assist to support and create Australian jobs and rebuild the economy. The 17 occupations on the PMSOL were selected based on advice from the National Skills Commission and the Government has stated they will review the occupations on the PMSOL regularly.
It is expected that the 17 occupations on PMSOL will be given priority processing over existing skilled migration occupation lists, however other lists will remain active with visas still being processed as usual.
If you are an offshore applicant whose occupation is one of the 17 listed on the PMSOL and you have your visa application approved, you will still need to apply for a travel exemption in order to enter Australia and then complete 14 days of quarantine at your own expense.
