The COVID-19 Pandemic Event for Temporary Activity (Subclass 408) visa has now been submitted for closure by 1st February 2024, and will not accept new applications after this date. Many policies granting concessions during the pandemic will soon or have been ceased. Â
Â
Pandemic Event Visa ClosureÂ
Since 2 September 2023 to 31 January 2024, only current holders of the Pandemic Event visa are eligible to apply for this visa. This restriction is part of a transition plan aimed at maintaining the integrity of the visa system. Current valid Pandemic Event visa holders can legally stay in Australia until their visa’s expiration. This phased discontinuation of the visa aligns with efforts to tailor the visa system to better meet Australia’s needs.Â
Previous pandemic measures, such as the unlimited work hours for international students and work exemptions for Working Holiday visa holders, have since been concluded. Â
Every individual must remain lawful if they wish to stay in Australia. It is essential that one explores other visa options and meet criteria, or leave Australia upon cessation of their visa.
