In the past weeks, changes to Australian Immigration Law have been introduced to certain types of visas and the Distinguished Talent (Subclass 858) visa has also received some modifications to streamline processes and support the work of the Global Business and Talent Attraction Taskforce.
The changes to the 858 visa, a permanent pathway for people who have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in an eligible field, are below:
- From 27 February 2021, the Distinguished Talent (Subclass 858) visa will change its name to Global Talent (Subclass 858) visa.
- A new pathway is created for applicants who have been endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Global Business and Talent Attraction (Special Envoy) to make a valid visa application.
- Applicants in Australia who applied prior to 14 November 2020 could be granted the Distinguished Talent (Subclass 124) visa.
- Applicants outside Australia who applied prior to 14 November 2020 could be granted the Distinguished Talent (Subclass 858) visa.
