408 Covid-19 Visa (Expired)

The Australia COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa (Subclass 408) was a specialized visa introduced in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

On 1 September 2023 the Australian Government announced the immediate closure of the 408 visa. This visa is no longer available for immigration purposes.

It served as a temporary solution for individuals who were in Australia and were unable to depart due to the pandemic-related travel restrictions.

The Subclass 408 COVID-19 Visa allowed individuals to lawfully remain in Australia if their current visa was about to expire and they could not leave due to various reasons, including closed international borders, limited flight availability, or health concerns. This visa provided a bridge to maintain legal status in Australia during an uncertain time.
