Pacific Engagement visa Tuvalu ballot now open
The Australian Government has officially opened the Pacific Engagement visa (subclass 192) Treaty stream ballot for Tuvalu nationals for the 2026–27 program year. The ballot opened on 1 May 2026 and will remain open until 1 June 2026. Eligible applicants must register during this period to be considered for selection.
How the Pacific Engagement visa ballot works
The Treaty stream operates through a random ballot selection process. Individuals cannot apply directly for the visa unless they are first selected through the ballot. Once the registration period closes, the Department of Home Affairs will commence random selections from eligible registrations.
For the 2026–27 program year, ballot selections for Tuvalu applicants are expected to commence from 9 June 2026 and may continue through to 30 June 2027 if additional selections are required to fill remaining allocations.
The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that the first random selection process is expected to occur shortly after the selection period begins.
280 visa places available for Tuvalu nationals
The Australian Government will allocate up to 280 Pacific Engagement visa Treaty stream places to Tuvalu nationals each year, including eligible partners and dependent children.
The pre-application ballot is designed to provide a fair and transparent selection process, giving eligible Tuvalu citizens equal access to the visa pathway regardless of skill level, occupation or gender.
Applicants selected through the ballot process will receive an invitation to lodge a visa application. The Department will issue instructions and application deadlines directly to selected participants through ImmiAccount and email notifications.
Key benefits of the Pacific Engagement visa Treaty stream
The Pacific Engagement visa (subclass 192) Treaty stream provides eligible Tuvalu citizens with a permanent residency pathway in Australia.
Successful applicants may:
- Live permanently in Australia
- Work anywhere in Australia
- Study in Australia
- Access long-term settlement opportunities
Importantly, the visa does not impose minimum skill thresholds, occupation restrictions or English language requirements for eligible applicants under the Treaty stream.
Understanding ballot status updates
The Department uses several ballot status categories throughout the process.
These include:
- Pending: ballot yet to open
- Active: registrations currently open
- Closed: registration period finished and selections pending
- Expired: selection process finalised
The Tuvalu ballot is currently listed as Active.
What applicants should consider
Applicants should ensure their registration is submitted before the ballot closes on 1 June 2026, as late registrations will not be accepted. As selections occur randomly, registration does not guarantee an invitation to apply for the visa. The Department may also conduct additional selections later in the program year if visa allocations remain available.
Further announcements regarding additional selection rounds are expected to be published on the Department’s website and official communication channels as processing progresses.
