At Absolute Immigration Group, we are delighted to see the Government’s commitment to multiculturalism reflected in the establishment of the new Office for Multicultural Affairs within the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

The Office for Multicultural Affairs is expected to oversee critical programs such as the Adult Migrant English Program, grants for humanitarian entrants, translation and interpreting services, and multicultural affairs policy. We see this as an important opportunity to improve access to services that support settlement, integration, and participation in Australian life. 

We acknowledge that the new Office sits within the Department of Home Affairs rather than as a standalone entity. While some have raised concerns about how multicultural communities can feel monitored rather than supported, we believe that this Office represents a positive step towards ensuring policy decisions are informed by community needs and lived experience. 

Minister Aly has rightly pointed out that multiculturalism is not just about citizenship and immigration but about all Australians embracing and valuing diversity in all its forms. This shift is essential to move beyond merely celebrating diversity to truly valuing and embedding it in every facet of Australian society.
