Temporary Skill Shortage visa (Subclass 482)

The Temporary Skills Shortage 482 visa allows the visa holder to live and work for their sponsor for two to four years to fill a position that the sponsor cannot find a suitably qualified Australian to fill.

Once this visa expires and if you have satisfied all relevant requirements, then you may be eligible for permanent residence through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187).

Conditions for applicants:

  • Hold an appropriate visa if applying within Australia (i.e. a substantive visa or a bridging visa)
  • Have complied with previous visa conditions
  • Be nominated by an approved sponsor
  • Work for your nominating employer
  • Have relevant skills, qualifications and employment background to perform occupation
  • Have worked in your nominated occupation or a related field for at least 2 years
  • Have a positive skills assessment
  • Have health insurance
  • Meet the DHA’s health requirement through completing a health examination
  • Meet the DHA’s character requirement
  • Be a genuine applicant for entry and stay as a short term visa holder
  • Have not contravened ‘paying for visa sponsorship’ legislative provisions
  • Meet the required level of English language depending on the stream applied
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused
  • Have no debt to the Australian government
  • Sign the Australian values statement
