Immigration New Zealand Announce Changes to Talent Work Visa

– Increasing the annual salary limit from NZD $55,000 to NZD $79,560

– Removing the option to get a Permanent Resident Visa if you apply for a Talent (Accredited Employer) Resident Visa

– Limiting the amount of time employers can be accredited to 24 months.

Annual Salary Increase

To apply for the Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa, an applicant’s salary must be at least NZD $79,560. This is a significant increase from the current NZD $55,000.

Applicants with salaries under $79,560 after 7 October are recommended to apply for the Essential Skills Work Visa instead.

Permanent Resident Visa Changes

From October 7, if an applicant does not hold a current Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa or have already submitted an application, they can no longer obtain a Permanent Residence Visa.

Current Talent (Accredit Employer) Work Visa holders who earn more than $90,000 a year can apply for the Talent (Accredited Employer) resident Visa and obtain a Permanent Residence Visa.

Employer Accreditation Moved to 24 Months

Employers who apply for accreditation can only be accredited for 24 months. The time limit was set to allow INZ time to make changes to the way employers recruit migrant workers.

Those who currently hold accreditation will not be affected until replying for accreditation.

Those who hold a Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa or Applied before 7 October

Applicants who currently hold or have applied for Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa before October 7 will not be affected by the changes.

Suggestions

– If you currently have an offer from an accredited employer and do not meet the new income requirement; we suggest that you submit your application as soon as possible.

– If you currently have an employer accreditation application in process, and cannot meet the new income requirement; it may be worthwhile to withdraw the application.
