{"id":33201,"date":"2022-07-27T12:05:09","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T02:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/absoluteimmigration.com\/?p=33201"},"modified":"2023-10-20T07:12:34","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T07:12:34","slug":"nzs-immigration-changes-after-11-59pm-31-july-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/absoluteimmigration.com\/nz\/news\/nzs-immigration-changes-after-11-59pm-31-july-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"NZ\u2019s immigration changes after 11.59pm, 31 July 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After 11.59 pm on 31 July, the final steps of Immigration New Zealand\u2019s Reconnecting Strategy will be reached.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>those outside New Zealand will be able to apply for student and visitor visas, and<\/li>\n<li>the border will be reopened to travelers arriving by air and sea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In this article, we provide you with a summary of the changes and in particular, to the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visitors to New Zealand<\/li>\n<li>Students in New Zealand<\/li>\n<li>Maritime border<\/li>\n<li>Phasing out border restrictions<\/li>\n<li>2021 Resident Visa closing<\/li>\n<li>COVID-19 restrictions in New Zealand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ed7d31;\"><strong>Visitors<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Every non-New Zealand or Australian citizen travelling to New Zealand needs a visa or New Zealand Electronic Authority (NZeTA) to enter the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visitor Visas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From 11.59pm on 31 July (NZST), applications for Visitor Visas will reopen.<\/p>\n<p>Group visitor visa fees will increase:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Approved Destination Status (China) will be NZD $90 per person (previously NZD $45)<\/li>\n<li>Other group visitor visa will be NZD $110 per person (previously NZD $65)<br \/>\nNZeTA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With an NZeTA you can travel to New Zealand without first applying for a visa if you are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a cruise ship passenger,<\/li>\n<li>travelling on a passport from a visa waiver country, or<\/li>\n<li>a permanent resident of Australia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ed7d31;\">Students<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Student visa applications reopen from 11:59pm 31 July 2022 (NZST) to support the rebuilding of a high-value international education sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Costs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From 11.59pm on 31 July 2022, Immigration fees and levies for student visas will increase.<\/p>\n<p>The new costs for a student visa will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$375 for Band A (New Zealand)<\/li>\n<li>$315 for Band B (Pacific)<\/li>\n<li>$395 for Band C (rest of world)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The amount students need for living costs while in New Zealand will also increase to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NZD $20,000 a year for tertiary, English language students and other non-compulsory education<\/li>\n<li>NZD $17,000 a year for students in compulsory education (years 1-13 at a school)<\/li>\n<li>NZD $5,000 for applicants for post-study work visa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applications online should be made between one and three months before intending to travel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ed7d31;\"><strong>Maritime border<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The maritime border will reopen to foreign-flagged vessels at 11.59pm on 31 July 2022 (NZST).<\/p>\n<p>Travellers on cruise ships must apply for an NZeTA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ed7d31;\">Phasing out border exceptions<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most border exceptions will close at 11:59pm on 31 July (NZST).<\/p>\n<p>The full timeline for INZ\u2019s transition back to standard visa processing was announced earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Click through to our article for further information \u2013 click here<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ed7d31;\"><strong>2021 Resident Visa category closing<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Government created the 2021 Resident Visa to recognise the contribution migrants made during COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Among those eligible to apply are critical workers in longer-term roles who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>held a visa as a critical health worker or other critical worker on 29 September 2021, or<\/li>\n<li>were granted a visa as a critical health worker or other critical worker after 29 September 2021.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 Resident Visa category closes at 11:59 pm on 31 July 2022 (NZST).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ed7d31;\"><strong>COVID-19 restrictions <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 restrictions still apply when travelling to New Zealand.
