The New Zealand Government has announced border class exceptions within the technology and agriculture sectors.

The tech sector is now one of the top three exporters, and jobs in tech have been growing at twice the rate of the general economy and the class exception will relieve some of the pressure on New Zealand tech firms and support their continued growth and export earnings.

Targeted areas of the tech sector exceptions include software development, product managers, cyber security and interactive media.

The Government is also assisting the agriculture sector and has altered the existing class border exception for 200 dairy workers to remove the previous split of 150 assistant dairy farm managers and 50 dairy farm assistants.

There is a lot of demand for dairy farm assistants, key agricultural jobs including 200 mobile plant machinery operators, 40 shearers and 50 wool handlers.

The Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme has a one-way quarantine-free travel system for RSE workers and with the new one-off NZ 2021 Resident Via pathway now available to some 9,000 migrants working in rural New Zealand, this is great news for the agriculture sector.
