Employer Sponsored Visas

Having a job offer by an Australian company may enable you to apply for migration to Australia through the employer sponsored programme.  Alternately, if you are a business owner who has a successful business or investment background in your home country, you may be eligible to apply through the Business Stream.

If you have an Australian company that would like to employ you for a role that is hard to fill with an Australian Citizen or permanent resident there are a number of steps that both the company and you must go through in order to get approval from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to migrate to Australia.

Eligible Australian companies must have a good business background, commitment to training Australian Citizens and show that the position to be filled is of a skilled nature and of benefit to Australia.  Be it through the temporary, subclass 457 business long-stay visa or a permanent visa application under the Employer Nomination Scheme, sponsoring companies must be robust enough to support at least the minimum salary levels of sponsored workers for at least two years after they have approval from DIAC to sponsor overseas workers.

If you are to be sponsored by an Australian business you will need to have the skills, qualifications and/or relevant work experience to work in an occupation on DIAC’s list of skilled occupations clicking here. In some cases, you may be called on to have your qualifications or skills assessed by one of Australia’s certified skills assessing authorities. In addition to your qualifications, you may also need to provide detailed work references to support you work experience history.
